Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Kashmir Zone, Virdi Kumar Birdi, recently led a thorough security review meeting aimed at strengthening law enforcement efforts and ensuring public safety ahead of the upcoming auspicious occasion of Me’raj-ul-Alam. The meeting, held at the Police Control Room (PCR) in Kashmir, saw the participation of officers from various branches of the police, intelligence agencies, and security forces.
During the gathering, Birdi was briefed by attending officers on the comprehensive security measures put in place across Kashmir to preempt any potential untoward incidents. Special attention was given to traffic arrangements, with Birdi emphasising the need for sufficient manpower to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Me’raj-ul-Alam festivities.
Recognising the critical need to reinforce the security grid against potential terror threats, Birdi directed officers to intensify surveillance of terrorist associates and take strict legal action against them. He also stressed the importance of strengthening intelligence networks, particularly in districts near the Line of Control (LoC) where infiltration remains a concern.
The meeting focused on adopting innovative policing techniques, leveraging technology for crime prevention, and enhancing community engagement initiatives. Moreover, there was a significant discussion on combating the drug menace, with a strong emphasis on taking robust action against drug peddlers.

Key attendees included DIG BSF Srinagar S S Chandel, DIG IRP Kashmir Abdul Qayoum, and representatives from CRPF, CID, Traffic Police, and various other security agencies. Notably, DIG South Kashmir Range (SKR) Anantnag, Altaf Ahmad Khan, DIG North Kashmir Range (NKR) Baramulla, Vivek Gupta, and all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from districts across Kashmir participated virtually.
There was a unanimous commitment among all stakeholders to effectively implement the discussed strategies and maintain close coordination to address present and future challenges in law enforcement.
