The renewed agreement underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering a secure maritime environment and advancing regional cooperation

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indonesia Coast Guard (BAKAMLA) have extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maritime safety and security cooperation for another three years. The renewed agreement was formalised during the 2nd High-Level Meeting (HLM) held at the ICG headquarters in New Delhi on 27 January 2025.

The discussions were led by ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani and BAKAMLA Chief Vice Admiral Irvansyah, who arrived in India with an eight-member delegation for an official visit from 24 to 28 January. The agenda focused on strengthening operational collaboration in key areas, including maritime search and rescue operations, pollution response, and law enforcement measures.

Both sides emphasised the importance of sharing best practices and fostering professional exchanges to enhance maritime safety and security across the Indo-Pacific region. The dialogue also explored opportunities to further improve coordination during joint operations.

To underline these cooperative efforts, ICG Ship *Shaunak* has been deployed to Jakarta from 27 to 30 January. The deployment aims to bolster operational ties between the two coast guard agencies and promote mutual understanding through on-ground engagements.

The renewed agreement underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering a secure maritime environment and advancing regional cooperation. It also signals the intent to maintain strong operational linkages and a shared responsibility for maritime safety.

Vice Admiral Irvansyah’s visit and the extension of the pact reflect the growing importance of maritime cooperation between India and Indonesia, particularly in the context of an increasingly dynamic Indo-Pacific region.
