ZeroEyes’ research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of gun violence trends across commercial and public infrastructure sectors
ZeroEyes, the developer of the only AI-based gun detection video analytics platform with U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation, has released its annual Gun Violence Report, offering an in-depth analysis of gun-related incidents across the United States. The report moves beyond mass casualty events to examine broader trends, shedding light on the nature and frequency of shootings nationwide.
Compiled by the ZeroEyes Gun Violence Research Center, the study analysed 5,462 gun-related incidents, revealing that 90 per cent of them resulted in injury or loss of life. Of these, 30 per cent were fatal, while 60 per cent led to non-fatal injuries, underscoring the urgent need for effective prevention measures.
Key Findings From Report
The report identifies several notable trends in gun violence:
Outdoor Spaces Most Vulnerable: A significant 3,235 incidents took place in open areas, highlighting the risks associated with public spaces.
Surge in Back-to-School Violence: September emerged as the deadliest month, with 728 incidents coinciding with the start of the academic year.
Retail and Education Sectors Affected: Retail locations and K-12 schools were among the most frequently targeted, reporting 1,459 and 1,417 incidents, respectively.
Suspects Evading Capture: Law enforcement faced challenges in apprehending offenders, with 1,885 suspects managing to flee after the incident.
Additional Concerns
Beyond these broad patterns, the report highlights several critical but less obvious areas of concern:
Handguns Dominate Firearm Incidents: Handguns were involved in at least 2,120 incidents, making them the most commonly used weapon. Additionally, 281 cases involved imitation or non-lethal firearms, which, despite their lack of functionality, still triggered panic and escalated tensions.
Parking Lots as High-Risk Zones: 1,848 shootings occurred in parking areas, revealing them as overlooked yet dangerous locations.
Timing of Incidents: The study found that gun-related violence peaked at around 12:55 p.m., identifying a crucial window of vulnerability.
Call For Action
ZeroEyes’ research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of gun violence trends across commercial and public infrastructure sectors. The findings are intended to help schools, businesses, and communities make informed decisions about security investments and preventive measures.
“This unprecedented analysis doesn’t just present numbers—it provides a roadmap for action,” said Erin Acheson, Vice President of Business Intelligence at ZeroEyes. “By understanding the when, where, and how of gun violence, we can develop targeted strategies to save lives and create safer communities.”
The report serves as a resource for policymakers, security professionals, and local authorities seeking to implement more effective gun violence prevention strategies.
