Unifi Expands Presence In UK Security Contracts At London Oxford Airport

Unifi’s entry into London Oxford Airport was supported by its strong local ties and its acquisition of Up & Away in 2023

Unifi has secured a significant new business aviation ground handling contract and its third Fixed Base Operation (FBO) security contract in the United Kingdom, signalling a key milestone in its ongoing international expansion. Starting from April 15, the company will oversee ramp handling operations and fuelling services at London Oxford Airport, the fifth-busiest UK airport for business aviation movements.

From May 1, Unifi will become the first external organisation to manage ramp operations at the airport. The contract also includes overseeing comprehensive airport security, operating around the clock throughout the year. This includes ID centre management, access control, visitor and delivery coordination, and National Aviation Security Programme (NASP) passenger screening via the airport’s FBO.

The airport, owned by the Reuben Brothers, has been seeing notable growth in on-demand flight services. It is also investing in its long-term development with projects such as a newly launched £48 million AerOx Science and R&D Park and a 70,000 sq.ft. hangar—Hangar No.16.

Unifi’s entry into London Oxford Airport was supported by its strong local ties and its acquisition of Up & Away in 2023—an aircraft services and executive jet detailing company that has been operating at the airport since 2008. This longstanding relationship played a vital role in building trust and paving the way for the new contracts.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with London Oxford Airport through ground handling and security operations,” said Stefan Murphy, Managing Director, Unifi UK and Ireland. “Our team is proud to support the airport’s growth with industry-leading services, in what is a significant step for Unifi as we continue expanding our footprint in the UK.”

To deliver on these new responsibilities, Unifi will onboard 35 staff to manage ramp and security operations, aiming to provide a seamless transition and maintain high service standards. The ramp operations will be co-branded as ‘London Oxford Airport powered by Unifi’. Additionally, Up & Away will continue to offer its aircraft detailing services on-site.

“We are pleased to welcome Unifi as our first ever outsourced ground handling partner since launching executive aviation activity (under new ownership) with NASP security compliance (passenger and baggage security screening) in 2008. The move builds on the close working relationship we have enjoyed with Up & Away for 17 years,” said Kris Black, Airport Operations Director at London Oxford Airport. “Their expertise, professionalism and deep understanding of aviation operations is renowned, and we look forward to working together to enhance the overall experience for our customers.”

The latest win strengthens Unifi’s operational footprint in the UK and reflects a growing demand for integrated aviation services at regional business airports.
