US Roll Out ‘One Stop Security’ To Streamline International Travel

The program, which is a top priority for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, began in July with flights from London Heathrow Airport

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a new pilot program designed to simplify the journey for international passengers flying into the United States. Known as “One Stop Security,” the initiative allows travellers arriving from certain foreign airports with connecting flights to bypass the standard TSA rescreening process upon arrival.

The program, which is a top priority for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, began in July with flights from London Heathrow Airport. American Airlines’ passengers connecting at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Delta Air Lines’ passengers arriving at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are the first to benefit from the new streamlined process.

“One Stop Security is TSA’s latest common-sense approach to streamlining the passenger journey while also bolstering aviation security,” said TSA Acting Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl. He noted that the goal is to simplify the often “challenging and time-consuming” process of international air travel while maintaining high levels of security.

Collaborative Effort for Efficiency

The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the TSA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the United Kingdom. It is contingent on participating foreign airports meeting security standards that are equivalent to the TSA’s own rigorous requirements.

For passengers, the benefits are clear: they can skip the additional security screening, proceed directly to the terminal’s sterile area after a CBP inspection, and have their checked baggage automatically transferred to their connecting flights without further handling. This not only enhances the passenger experience but is also expected to improve security at foreign locations and reduce operational costs.

The One Stop Security program is the latest in a series of TSA initiatives aimed at modernising air travel, which also includes programs to recognise military service members and to assist families flying with young children.
