AI-Powered Security To Safeguard Red Fort On Independence Day

Advanced surveillance systems, including facial and vehicle recognition, to enhance security measures at the iconic venue

Security agencies are set to deploy advanced AI-based security systems with enhanced surveillance capabilities and automated crowd estimation at and around Red Fort for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, according to sources. The systems will include CCTVs equipped with video analytics, which will be strategically placed at key locations. The AI-driven video surveillance will feature vehicle number plate recognition, face detection, people movement counting, audio detection, intrusion detection, and other advanced security measures.

An official noted that AI-armed cameras will monitor the entry and exit of people within the premises, with crowd estimation conducted through AI technology. The cameras will also detect abandoned baggage and other security risks, triggering zone-based alarms based on the sensitivity of each area.

The facial recognition system (FRS) will be enhanced to identify faces from live footage and recorded videos, cross-referencing with the “Watch List” database to provide alerts to the control room. It will also allow searches for individuals by name or image across multiple cameras. Additionally, a new Number Plate Recognition (NPR) system will be implemented for real-time vehicle monitoring, recording, and identification.

Over 700 CCTVs and more than 150 cameras equipped with video analytics will be deployed by Delhi Police, alongside more than 10,000 security personnel, including paramilitary forces. In light of recent global security incidents, such as the attack on former US President Donald Trump, additional measures are being considered to maintain a heightened level of vigilance at the event.
