In response to recent terror attacks in Jammu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and assessed the preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, set to start on June 29. Shah instructed security agencies to replicate the successful strategies used in the Kashmir Valley, such as the “area domination plan” and “zero terror plan,” in the Jammu division. He emphasized the government’s commitment to combating terrorism using “innovative means” and called for all security agencies to operate in “mission mode” with quick and coordinated responses, according to a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Since June 9, there have been four terror attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda in the Jammu division, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer. A civilian and at least seven security personnel were also injured. While Jammu has seen less militant activity compared to the Kashmir Valley over the past two decades, the region has experienced at least 26 major terror attacks since mid-2021.

He stressed the need for seamless coordination among security agencies, identifying vulnerable areas, and addressing their security concerns. Shah also highlighted the government’s dedication to eradicating terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir completely.
The Home Minister pointed to the positive impact of the government’s efforts in the Kashmir Valley, which have led to a significant reduction in terror-related incidents and an increase in tourism. He praised the security agencies and the J&K administration for successfully conducting the Lok Sabha elections, which saw a record voter turnout in the region.
The meeting, attended by key officials including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant-Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pandey, and other senior officers, also focused on preparations for the Amarnath Yatra. Shah emphasised the importance of perfect inter-agency coordination and an effective standard operating response mechanism for the yatra’s security. He also highlighted the government’s priority to ensure that devotees do not face any difficulties, alongside the adoption of eco-friendly measures in managing the pilgrimage.
The J&K administration has made extensive arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, including seamless registration, convoy movement, camping and medical facilities, upgraded tracks, power and water supply, and mobile phone connectivity. Last year, over 4.5 lakh devotees participated in the pilgrimage.
