Amit Shah To Chair Key Security Review Meeting In J&K

The meeting gains significance following a recent attack in the Anantnag district, where terrorists opened fire on ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and his family

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting on Tuesday to assess the law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The discussions are expected to focus on the government’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, according to officials familiar with the development.

The meeting gains significance following a recent attack in the Anantnag district, where terrorists opened fire on ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and his family. Wagay succumbed to his injuries, while his wife and niece are receiving treatment.

Officials said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Ministry of Home Affairs are likely to attend the meeting.

Strengthening Security Measures

Tuesday’s review comes just weeks after a similar high-level meeting on December 19, during which the Home Minister instructed security agencies to work in a coordinated manner to root out terrorism from the region.

“The government is committed to maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. Security agencies have been asked to continue operating in sync to ensure the elimination of terrorist threats,” said an official aware of the security dynamics in the region.

Positive Trends Highlighted

Government sources point to a significant decline in terrorist incidents, infiltration attempts, and recruitment by terrorist organisations in recent years. Security experts attribute this progress to heightened surveillance and proactive counter-terror operations led by multiple agencies.

Despite these gains, sporadic attacks remain a challenge, with officials emphasising the need for constant vigilance and collaboration among various security agencies.

The outcome of Tuesday’s security review is expected to shape the government’s strategic approach to security measures in the Union Territory over the coming months.
