A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel rescued a 63-year-old French national who had collapsed unconscious at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The incident unfolded at approximately noon on January 26, as passenger Bertrand Patrick was queuing up for a security check before his scheduled flight to Paris. Without warning, Patrick lost consciousness and fell to the floor in the security-hold area.

Sub-Inspector Puneet Kumar Tiwari, who was operating an x-ray scanner nearby, immediately sprang into action upon noticing the situation. Rushing to Patrick’s side, Tiwari performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the stricken passenger.

The timely intervention didn’t stop there. Airport staff quickly summoned a doctor stationed at the IGI, who provided initial treatment to Patrick. Thanks to the combined efforts of the CISF personnel and medical professionals, Patrick soon regained consciousness and showed signs of improvement.

Expressing gratitude for the swift response, a CISF spokesperson highlighted the critical role played by their personnel in saving Patrick’s life. “Due to alertness and prompt action by the CISF personnel, a precious life was saved,” the spokesperson remarked.

CPR, an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating, proved instrumental in Patrick’s case. Medical experts emphasise that immediate CPR can significantly increase the chances of survival following cardiac arrest.

With a current strength of 1,77,075 personnel, the CISF has evolved into a premier multi-skilled organisation. Many of its members are trained in performing CPR, a skill that has been demonstrated repeatedly at various airports and other locations where the CISF provides security.
