This heightened security comes in the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s maiden speech as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, where he criticised the BJP
The Delhi Police have intensified security outside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s residence following intelligence inputs about potential threats from right-wing groups, senior officers confirmed on Wednesday.
A senior police officer reported that a platoon of paramilitary personnel and several teams from the New Delhi district police have been deployed outside Gandhi’s home. The security measures were ramped up during the afternoon after a tip-off indicated a possible disturbance in the area.
This heightened security comes in the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s maiden speech as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, where he criticised the BJP, accusing those who call themselves Hindus of engaging in “violence and hate.” The remarks have sparked sharp reactions from party leaders, who allege that Gandhi insulted Hindus.
Gandhi’s speech on Monday lasted about 100 minutes, but several portions were later expunged by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The removed sections included references to Hinduism in the context of the BJP, comments on prominent industrialists often mentioned by Congress in relation to the Narendra Modi government, the Agnipath scheme, the NEET controversy, and specific remarks about the Prime Minister and the situation in Manipur.
As the investigation into the potential threats continues, the Delhi Police remain vigilant to ensure Gandhi’s safety and maintain order in the area.
