India’s cybersecurity ranking has been steady at 10th since 2021, but with the inception of the GCA, there are expectations to further improve this standing
The Global Cybersecurity Association (GCA) has introduced the GCA Index, a comprehensive resource aimed at increased efforts towards a cyber secure future of Indians. This initiative, launched by the non-profit body, serves as a centralised platform for individuals and organisations to identify reliable cybersecurity solutions. It enables them to make informed decisions and proactively implement cybersecurity measures to combat the ever-growing cyber threats.
India’s cybersecurity ranking has been steady at 10th since 2021, but with the inception of the GCA, there are expectations to further improve this standing. Gulshan Rai, Former National Cybersecurity Coordinator, stresses the critical need to address the interface of IT and OT to effectively manage cyber threats. He stressed that without prompt action, the country may struggle to handle the escalating cyber threats, and the GCA will serve as a guiding light for both the government and citizens towards achieving cyber resilience.
“India has been successfully ranked at the 10th position since 2021, however, with the Global Cybersecurity Association (GCA) coming into place, we further expect to better our rank. To do this, we need to address the critical issue of managing the interface of IT and OT in the near future,” said Gulshan Rai, Former National Cybersecurity Coordinator and Former DG, CERT-In.
The GCA’s mission is to become India’s prominent cybersecurity advocate by providing reliable resources and tools to combat cybersecurity threats. It aims to empower individuals and organisations to navigate the complexities of digital security effortlessly. Rajeev Bhadauria, Advisor at Reliance ADA Group, highlights the importance of wisdom and prudence in combating evolving cyber threats, particularly with the emergence of Gen-AI technology.
Manoj Bhale, President of the Global Cybersecurity Association, underscores the significance of collective experience and action in building a secure digital India. He talked about the the role of accessible resources and collaborative forums in equipping stakeholders to combat cyber threats effectively. The GCA Index is now open for applications, with the first listing set to be announced in August 2024. Cybersecurity products, solutions, and service organisations are invited to participate in this initiative.
Amidst rising instances of cybercrime in India, as reported by CERT-In handling over 13,91,457 incidents in 2022, the GCA believes that the GCA Index can contribute to reducing cybercrime by providing valuable resources and solutions. The launch of the GCA Index marks a significant step towards enhancing cybersecurity efforts in India. With collective participation from the government, industry, and citizens, the GCA aims to equip stakeholders with the necessary tools and knowledge to combat cyber threats effectively and build a secure digital ecosystem.
