In a bid to tackle the surge in cybercrime cases, Kolkata Police, in partnership with the Department of Information Technology, Government of West Bengal, is set to unveil a specialized cyber awareness bus named ‘Cybuzz’. The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for January 9, will be officiated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The primary objective of ‘Cybuzz’ is to raise awareness about various cyber threats among the general public while also providing insights into preventive measures. Equipped with informative materials, a video wall, interactive tabs, as well as posters and banners featuring awareness content, the bus aims to educate individuals across all sections of society. Additionally, it will host cyber quizzes specifically targeting children, engaging commuters on board.
Recognising senior citizens and children as the most vulnerable groups to cybercrimes, sources have revealed that ‘Cybuzz’ will visit various schools and old age homes to extend its outreach.
The bus will be stationed at strategic locations and important roads to maximise its impact. The content onboard will highlight the latest modus operandi of cybercrimes and offer guidance on safeguarding against them.
Joint CP (Organisation) Syed Waquar Raza highlighted the necessity of such an initiative, stating, “Over the last few months, there have been several reported cases of home frauds, following which we have arrested many people. With the help of Cybuzz and other social media platforms, we are trying to generate awareness so that people do not fall for such frauds. We are also taking the help of FM radio to spread awareness.”
Raza emphasised the importance of educating people, especially children, about the various ways in which cybercrimes occur and how to protect themselves. He outlined the use of games, audio-visual aids, interesting leaflets, and cartoons as methods to engage and inform the public effectively.The launch of ‘Cybuzz’ showcase Kolkata Police’s commitment to leveraging technology and collaborative efforts to address the evolving challenges posed by cybercrimes, ultimately aiming to create a safer digital environment for all citizens.
