Main Accused Of Axis Bank Robbery Held, Was Working As Security Guard In CP

Delhi Police announced on Friday that they have apprehended the main suspect in a robbery case involving Rs 1 crore at an Axis Bank branch in Vaishali, Bihar. The incident, which occurred in August, reportedly involved a total of nine individuals. The lead perpetrator was reportedly employed as a security guard at a restaurant in Connaught Place at the time of his arrest.

The robbery unfolded on August 1, when four armed assailants allegedly entered the Axis Bank branch in Lalganj, Vaishali, making off with approximately Rs 1 crore. Subsequently, a case was registered at Lalganj Police Station, citing criminal conspiracy and robbery charges.The accused has been identified as Mani Kumar, who has been implicated in three different robberies.

On November 28, the Delhi Police received a tip-off indicating that a certain Mani Kumar, with a history of involvement in multiple robbery and dacoity cases, and currently evading authorities in connection to a bank dacoity case in Bihar, was hiding at a parking lot near Red Fort. Despite diligent efforts, law enforcement initially struggled to locate him.

Later information suggested that Kumar had assumed the role of a security guard at an establishment in Connaught Place. After narrowing down the search, the police identified him as a newly-deployed security guard outside a restaurant at Janpath. DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena stated, “His identity was established as Mani Kumar. He initially kept changing his statements… he was eventually held. He disclosed that his gang members have been involved in 18 to 19 cases of bank robbery and dacoity in the past.”
