In a deeply distressing incident that marred New Year celebrations, a 36-year-old advocate met a tragic end, allegedly shot by a security guard in response to casteist slurs. The unfortunate event unfolded late on Sunday night near the Tadikhana trisection under the Lalpur-Pandeypur police station area.
Advocate Raghavendra Singh, in the midst of celebrating the arrival of the New Year with friends and employees, faced a horrifying turn of events. Gaurav Singh, a friend managing a security company, was also in attendance at the gathering.
According to Manoj Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Lalpur-Pandeypur police station, the celebratory atmosphere took a dark turn during the party. Allegedly, Raghavendra Singh directed casteist words at the security guard, identified as Hardendu Shekhar Tripathi. Tripathi, a resident of Nagwa, worked for Gaurav Singh.
Reacting to the perceived insults, the security guard reportedly resorted to extreme measures, shooting Raghavendra Singh with his licensed pistol. The wounded advocate was swiftly rushed to the trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) by his friends. Unfortunately, the medical team declared him deceased upon arrival.
