PM Modi Chairs Security Meeting Amid Rising Terror Attacks In J&K

This meeting follows an incident in Doda district of J&K, where two soldiers were injured in a gunfight with terrorists

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday, July 18, to address the rising number of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were also present. No additional details about the meeting have been released.

This meeting follows an incident in Doda district of J&K, where two soldiers were injured in a gunfight with terrorists. The ongoing encounter is part of an operation to neutralize militants responsible for the deaths of four personnel, including a Major. The operation, now in its fourth day, saw intermittent exchanges of fire in the Desa forests between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

“All security forces on the ground are engaged in a well-coordinated operation against terrorists with whom we had contact yesterday and today as well. The operation is under progress and we will get success soon,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Kishtwar, Ramban range, Shridhar Patil in Kastigarh.

Earlier in the day, two Army personnel were injured when terrorists fired at a temporary security camp set up in a school building to support search operations linked to the Doda attack. Reports indicate that the terrorists fled into the dense forest after the attack.

The gunfight began at around 2 am in Jaddan Bata village, Kastigarh, and lasted for over an hour. One of the critically injured soldiers was transported to the command hospital in Udhampur. The Defence PRO in Jammu stated, “Swift action by ALH from Air Force Station, Udhampur saved a critically injured soldier’s life in Doda (J&K). Despite challenging weather, the evacuation was successful, ensuring timely medical care at Command Hospital, Udhampur. Kudos to the team for their dedication & bravery.”

The security situation in J&K continues to be tense, with coordinated efforts by the Army and police to address the threat posed by terrorists.
