Sinha had been appointed as a security guard at the Barak Valley Cement Factory (BVCL) and was known for his dedication to his job. His sudden demise has left his colleagues and the local community in shock. “Amar was a hardworking and loyal employee. His untimely death is a great loss to all of us,” said a fellow worker.

This incident underscores the severe risks posed by extreme heat, particularly for those working outdoors. In light of this tragedy, experts are urging the implementation of best practices to prevent heat-related illnesses among security personnel and other outdoor workers. Key recommendations include:

1. Hydration: Ensure regular intake of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
2. Scheduled Breaks: Implement regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas to allow the body to cool down.
3. Protective Clothing: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to reflect heat.
4. Heat Awareness Training: Train workers to recognize symptoms of heat-related illnesses and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention.
5. Acclimatisation: Gradually increase exposure to hot conditions over a period of 1-2 weeks.
6. Emergency Procedures: Establish and communicate clear procedures for responding to heat-related emergencies.

The management of BVCL Cement Factory has expressed its condolences to Sinha’s family and stated that they are reviewing their safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding workers against the dangers of extreme heat.
