Synology recently presented its latest solutions and products during a press briefing held in New Delhi, focusing on the escalating threat posed by ransomware attacks. Among the unveiled offerings was the HD6500, the company’s flagship high-density storage server capable of accommodating up to 4.8 Petabytes of storage capacity. Synology positions this server not only as a central file repository but also as a backup resource tailored for large enterprise organizations, emphasising its potential to fortify data protection.
With the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) influencing data management practices for businesses in India, Synology shed light on the obstacles encountered by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in meeting stringent data governance standards. These hurdles encompass data breach notification protocols, management of data subject rights, and the requirement for appointing Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in specific instances. Alongside addressing compliance-related challenges associated with the DPDPA, the event also delved into prevalent cybersecurity issues.
This includes recent data breaches like those at Polycab and AIIMS, the latter taking over two weeks for full recovery, ransomware attacks targeting Indian businesses, and cloud security risks concerning data residency and provider reliability. The company underscored the significance of implementing a comprehensive backup strategy as a defense against ransomware threats.
Russell Chen, Country Manager at Synology SAARC region, highlighted the company’s notable 20% market growth in the past year, primarily driven by heightened demand from SMBs and enterprises. Chen attributed the surge in demand for Synology’s backup solutions, surpassing 20%, to India’s emergence as a significant data center hub in the region. This growth has further been propelled by government initiatives encouraging businesses to allocate more of their IT budget towards security.
“The landscape of data management and security is evolving rapidly, compelling businesses to stay ahead of the curve to ensure compliance and safeguard sensitive information,” remarked Russell Chen during the launch event.
