Bengal Government To Strengthen Hospital Security With Retired Armed Forces & Police Personnel

The order specifies that retired inspectors, deputy superintendents, additional superintendents of police, and ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy, and Air Force

The West Bengal government has decided to deploy retired officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and police as security officers across various healthcare facilities. This initiative aims to enhance safety measures in Medical College & Hospitals, District Hospitals, and Super Specialty Hospitals throughout the state.

To implement this, the state government has issued an order directing district police superintendents to compile a list of retired personnel from the armed forces and police who have left service within the last two years and are interested in taking on these security roles.

The order specifies that retired inspectors, deputy superintendents, additional superintendents of police, and ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy, and Air Force holding ranks such as Naib Subedar, Subedar, Captain, or Major (or equivalent) will be considered for these positions if they are willing and physically fit for the job.

“For supervision of the security arrangements at important government hospitals – medical colleges, district hospitals, and super specialty hospitals, retired police, Army, Navy, and Air Force officials shall be deployed,” the order states. It further emphasizes that appropriate remuneration will be provided in accordance with the guidelines of the state Finance Department.

The district superintendents of police have been tasked with collecting details of retired police officers, particularly those who held the ranks of inspector, deputy SP, or additional SP, and who are fit and willing to serve as security officers in the hospitals. Additionally, they are to gather information from the District Sainik Kalyan Board on retired armed forces personnel of the specified ranks who are interested in the role.

This initiative reflects the Bengal government’s commitment to improving the security infrastructure in its hospitals by leveraging the experience and discipline of retired military and police personnel, ensuring a safer environment for patients and healthcare workers alike.
