The Delhi government has announced the launch of two new major initiatives, a financial aid scheme for persons with disabilities and a new fleet of fire safety vehicles, to coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to formally inaugurate the projects.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed the plans, stating that a new scheme would provide RS 6,000 in monthly assistance to caregivers of persons with at least 40 per cent disability and certified as having “High Support Needs.” The funds will be disbursed directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts to cover expenses for caregiving, therapy, and assistive devices.
In announcing the new financial aid, Ms. Gupta said the initiative was designed to provide “dignity, security, and emotional support,” ensuring that beneficiaries are seen as “active and respected citizens.”
The government also announced the addition of 24 new Quick Response Vehicles to the Delhi Fire Services fleet. Procured at a cost of ₹8.61 crore, the compact vehicles are equipped with Ultra High-Pressure Pump Extinguishing Systems. They will be stationed in fire-prone locations across the city, including Janakpuri, Vasant Kunj, and Geeta Colony, to enhance emergency response capabilities.

Further celebratory events are planned for the day, including a blood donation camp and a ‘Sewa Sankalp Walk.’ Home Minister Amit Shah will also inaugurate approximately 15 other projects, including new hospital blocks and dialysis centres, under the government’s ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ (fortnight of service) initiative, which runs until October 2.
