Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, is gearing up for the launch of Grok 3, its most advanced AI chatbot yet. The new model, which Musk has termed the “smartest AI on Earth,” is expected to debut on Monday, 17 February, during a live demonstration at 8 p.m. PT.

According to a report by Daily Galaxy, Grok 3 is powered by an unprecedented 100,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, providing ten times the processing power of its predecessor, Grok 2. This upgrade is expected to significantly improve reasoning abilities, efficiency, and accuracy in AI-generated responses.

Musk Calls Grok 3 ‘Scary Smart’

Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai on 13 February, Musk described Grok 3 as being “scary smart”, highlighting its enhanced reasoning capabilities.

“Grok 3 has very powerful reasoning capabilities, so in the tests that we’ve done thus far, Grok 3 is outperforming anything that’s been released, that we’re aware of, so that’s a good sign,” Musk said during his video address.

One of Grok 3’s key advancements is its novel learning approach. Instead of solely relying on traditional datasets, xAI has introduced synthetic datasets to simulate diverse real-world scenarios. This method aims to reduce biases and hallucinations—common challenges in AI-generated content.

Grok 3’s Competitive Edge In AI Race

The launch of Grok 3 comes at a time of intense competition in the AI industry. xAI is up against well-established players such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Chinese AI firm DeepSeek, which has reportedly advanced at a fraction of the cost spent by its Western counterparts.

A key differentiator for Grok is its content flexibility. Unlike other AI chatbots that restrict responses involving certain figures, Grok allows users to include celebrities, politicians, and even fictional characters like superheroes in prompts. The chatbot is also integrated directly into X (formerly Twitter) as an AI assistant, making it accessible through both a mobile app and a web version.

However, it remains unclear whether Grok 3 will be available to free-tier users or if access will be restricted to paid subscribers.

Musk’s Attempt To Acquire OpenAI Rejected

Musk, who was one of OpenAI’s co-founders, has been making headlines for his recent attempt to acquire the company. According to Reuters, Musk and a consortium of investors made an offer to buy OpenAI for USD 97.4 billion on 10 February. However, the offer was swiftly rejected by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who took to X to respond:

“No thank you but we will buy Twitter for USD 9.74 billion if you want.”

The rejection comes amid OpenAI’s transition towards a for-profit model, further intensifying competition in the AI space.

Looking Ahead

With Grok 3’s launch, xAI aims to set a new benchmark in generative AI and language modelling. Whether it will live up to Musk’s claim of being the “smartest AI on Earth” remains to be seen, but its enhanced processing power and unique learning model certainly position it as a formidable player in the AI race.

As the industry watches closely, Grok 3’s performance and adoption will determine its impact in an increasingly competitive AI landscape.
