The Himachal Pradesh Police has successfully completed a 10-day intensive drone operations training program aimed at improving digital surveillance and operational efficiency. The program, conducted under the leadership of Director General of Police Dr. Atul Verma, IPS, underscores the department’s commitment to incorporating advanced technology into its policing methods.
Despite facing challenges such as heavy rain and fog, which forced a temporary shift of the training to Kolar District in Sirmour, the program was concluded successfully. The final demonstration took place at Police Lines Bharari in Shimla, showcasing the newly acquired drone skills of the trained officers.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Tourist, and Railway, Gurdev Chand Sharma, IPS, attended the closing ceremony and emphasised the growing role of drones in modern policing. He highlighted their importance in various operational tasks, including routine surveillance, crowd management, disaster response, and crime investigation. “The integration of drones into our operations is a significant step towards smarter policing, enabling us to respond swiftly and effectively to a range of situations,” DIG Sharma remarked.
Additional SP, Traffic, Tourist, and Railway, Narvir Singh Rathour, who coordinated the course, praised the dedication of the participants. He also commended ASI Sandeep Chauhan of the 6th IRBn Nahan, District Sirmour, for his outstanding contribution as the course trainer, emphasizing the critical role of skilled personnel in maximizing the benefits of drone technology.
Drones are increasingly becoming an essential tool in law enforcement, offering real-time surveillance capabilities that enhance crowd control, border security, and search and rescue operations. Their ability to swiftly and accurately gather and analyze data makes them invaluable in documenting crime scenes and managing traffic, reducing risks to personnel and lowering operational costs. As the Indian drone industry continues to grow, the potential applications of drones in policing are set to expand, leading to more innovative and efficient law enforcement solutions.
