This approach sets IBM apart from competitors like Microsoft, which charges customers for access to its AI models
IBM unveiled the latest version of its artificial intelligence models, “Granite 3.0,” on Monday, aiming to capitalise on the increasing adoption of generative AI by businesses. These models, designed specifically for enterprise use, will be made open-source, continuing IBM’s strategy of sharing its Granite family of AI models with the broader community.
This approach sets IBM apart from competitors like Microsoft, which charges customers for access to its AI models. Instead, IBM provides a paid tool called Watsonx, which helps businesses run and customize these models within their own data centers.
Some variants of the Granite 3.0 models are now available for commercial use through the Watsonx platform, allowing companies to integrate AI capabilities into their operations. Additionally, a selection of these models will be available on Nvidia’s suite of AI tools, giving businesses even more flexibility to adopt and deploy AI technologies.
Dario Gil, IBM’s director of research, highlighted that the new models were trained using Nvidia’s H100 graphics processing units (GPUs), widely recognized as leading hardware in the AI field.
With this release, IBM continues to position itself as a key player in the AI market, offering businesses scalable and customizable AI solutions.
