NCAA To Host Aviation Security Awareness To Strengthen Nigeria’s Safe Skies Initiative

Bringing together key stakeholders across the aviation value chain — including airport and airline operators, air navigation service providers, security agencies, ground handling companies, aviation security personnel, and the regulatory body

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to host a landmark Aviation Security Awareness and Enlightenment Symposium, aimed at reinforcing security consciousness, promoting collaboration, and strengthening aviation security governance in Nigeria. Themed “The Fundamentality of Security in Achieving the Safe Skies Goal,” the symposium is scheduled for 29 April 2025 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Bringing together key stakeholders across the aviation value chain — including airport and airline operators, air navigation service providers, security agencies, ground handling companies, aviation security personnel, and the regulatory body — the event will serve as a platform to exchange ideas and drive enhancements to Nigeria’s aviation security systems.

Capt. Chris O Najomo, Director General of the NCAA, underscored the importance of continuous engagement in building a resilient aviation security framework. “Security is the backbone of civil aviation. To protect our skies and ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and infrastructure, we must cultivate a shared security culture driven by knowledge, vigilance, and cooperation,” he said.

The symposium aligns with the requirements of ICAO Annex 17 and the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and forms part of the NCAA’s broader efforts to reinforce Nigeria’s aviation security regime in line with global best practices.

Key focus areas for discussion include emerging threats in the aviation security landscape, improved coordination between aviation operators and security agencies, the role of innovation and technology in aviation security, building a proactive and informed workforce, and enhancing compliance with international security standards.

The event will feature keynote addresses, technical sessions led by industry experts, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and interactive Q&A sessions. It aims to foster a collaborative environment to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools required to navigate the evolving security challenges facing the aviation sector.
