UP Govt. Approves Rs 11.7 Cr. Weapon Procurement For STF & UPSSF

The decision was finalised by the state’s home (police) department after securing the necessary approvals from the finance department and prior administrative sanctions

In a significant move aimed at boosting the operational capacity of its elite law enforcement units, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the procurement of 3,000 9mm pistols and 405 assault rifles for the state’s Special Task Force (STF) and Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF). The total expenditure for this procurement stands at over Rs 11.7 crore.

According to official documents, the purchase includes 3,000 units of 9mm pistols, each priced at Rs 27,899, amounting to approximately Rs 8.36 crore. In addition, 405 units of 7.62x39mm assault rifles will be acquired at a cost of Rs 83,151 per unit, totalling Rs 3.36 crore. The contract for this procurement has been awarded to Stumpp Schuele Lewis Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd.

The decision was finalised by the state’s home (police) department after securing the necessary approvals from the finance department and prior administrative sanctions. The process is being carried out in line with established government procurement guidelines, which include strict financial controls and accountability measures for officials overseeing the purchase.

A senior official from the home department highlighted the importance of the acquisition, noting the evolving security landscape in the state. “The STF and UPSSF have played a key role in tackling organised crime, addressing terror threats and handling sensitive security operations. With the addition of new weapons, these forces will be better prepared to manage and respond to emerging challenges,” the official said.

The STF, known for its counter-terrorism and anti-crime operations, and the UPSSF, which focuses on protecting vital installations and ensuring public safety, are expected to significantly benefit from the upgrade in weaponry. This procurement is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernise police forces across the state and enhance their preparedness for high-risk scenarios.

With this move, Uttar Pradesh joins a growing list of Indian states investing in specialised equipment for security forces to strengthen internal security and maintain public order.
