Vi Becomes First Indian Telecom To Achieve PCI DSS 4.0 Certification

Telecom leader sets new benchmark in customer payment data security with prestigious global certification

Leading telecom operator Vi has become the first telecom company in India to achieve the Payment Card Industry-data Security Standard (PCI DSS) version 4.0 certification for its retail stores and payment channels. This milestone highlights Vi’s dedication to securing customer payment data by adhering to the most stringent global security protocols.

The PCI DSS 4.0 standard, established by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), represents the highest level of protection for organisations handling credit and debit card transactions, safeguarding them against data breaches and fraud. While this certification is already mandated for banks and financial institutions under RBI guidelines, Vi’s achievement marks a significant step for the Indian telecom industry.

Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vi, stated, “The security of our customers’ data is not just a priority, it is our commitment. Achieving PCI DSS 4.0 demonstrates our dedication to adopting the best security measures. We are proud to be the first telecom operator in India to receive this certification and will continue setting industry benchmarks.”

Vi collaborated with Vista InfoSec, a well-known security consulting firm, to secure this certification. Narendra Sahoo, Founder and Director of Vista InfoSec, praised Vi’s determination, saying, “Their commitment to achieving this industry-first milestone highlights their focus on securing customer payments.”

This new certification builds on Vi’s earlier success this year, when it became the first telecom operator in India to achieve SOC2 Type II attestation. These accomplishments reinforce Vi’s leadership in the telecom sector, demonstrating its continued focus on protecting customer data and implementing industry-leading security standards.
