According to the police investigation, the security guard and two other employees helped external thieves to carry out the thefts systematically
In a startling revelation, the Gola Ka Mandir police station in Gwalior successfully apprehended a gang involved in an organised theft within a prominent Mega Mart located at Pintu Park. The incident unfolded on a Sunday, exposing a wicked collaboration among some of the outlet’s own employees, including one of its security guards.
The police, who acted swiftly upon receiving information about the missing goods, managed to apprehend four individuals involved in the crime. Among the accused, one was identified as the Mega Mart’s security guard. The stolen items, including a significant quantity of oil bottles, soaps, flour packets, and biscuits, were recovered during the subsequent search of the accused’s hideout.
According to the police investigation, the security guard and two other employees colluded with external thieves to carry out the thefts systematically. This illicit group had been operating for several months, taking advantage of the Mega Mart’s closure at night. The security guard, entrusted with securing the premises, would secretly unlock the doors for his accomplices, allowing them to pick goods from the store.
The modus operandi of the gang involved loading the stolen items onto a vehicle parked nearby, which they would then transport to their concealed hideout. The security guard’s compensation for his complicity in the criminal enterprise was set at 20 percent of the total value of the stolen goods.
The Mega Mart management swung into action upon discovering the discrepancies in the inventory. After scrutinising the CCTV footage, they identified the thieves and, on a late Sunday night, apprehended Dharmendra, Pradeep, Dinesh Kori, and Dharmendra red-handed during another attempt to steal goods. The suspects were promptly handed over to the police.
The police have registered a case of theft against the accused and are proceeding with legal actions to ensure their incarceration. Shedding light on the incident, ASP Niranjan Sharma emphasised that the arrested individuals, initially thought to be part of an external gang, turned out to be employees working within Mega Mart. He stated, “There is no gang as such; instead, the employees working in Mega Mart have turned out to be thieves. We have begun to take action in the matter.”
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust security measures within retail establishments and the need for thorough background checks on employees entrusted with safeguarding valuable assets. The Mega Mart management’s swift response and collaboration with law enforcement highlight the importance of vigilance in preventing internal theft and ensuring the safety of businesses and their patrons.
