Y-plus security cover, characterised by an 11-member security detail including one or two commandos, is the fourth highest level of security provided to individuals
Parth Pawar, the son of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and NCP’s candidate for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat, has been granted ‘Y-plus’ category security, according to a senior official from the Pune police.
This decision comes as Parth actively supports his mother, Sunetra Pawar, in her electoral campaign. Despite an unsuccessful bid for the Maval Lok Sabha seat in 2019, Parth remains dedicated to his political endeavors, particularly in supporting his family members’ electoral aspirations.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that the state government made the call to provide Parth with the Y-plus security cover, citing security concerns. A local NCP functionary echoed this sentiment, emphasising Parth’s assertive leadership style and the potential risks he faces while campaigning in remote areas.
However, not everyone views this development favorably. Parth’s cousin, Rohit Pawar, a member of the NCP led by Sharad Pawar, criticised the decision, alleging a misplaced priority in allocating security resources. Rohit Pawar pointed out the apparent neglect of safety concerns among the general public, who often encounter harassment from anti-social elements. He even humorously suggested deploying tanks for Parth’s security.
Y-plus security cover, characterised by an 11-member security detail including one or two commandos, is the fourth highest level of security provided to individuals. This level of protection aims to ensure the safety of the individual under surveillance while allowing them to carry out their duties without undue risk.
The decision to grant Parth Pawar Y-plus security underscores the complexities of political engagement in India, where security concerns often intersect with familial ties and electoral ambitions.
