As cyber threats grow more complex—particularly with the rise of AI tools used by attackers—Fortinet’s latest update seeks to address a dual challenge

Fortinet, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, has announced a significant expansion of its FortiAI platform, integrating new agentic AI capabilities into its broader Security Fabric framework. The move is designed to help organisations strengthen defences against AI-powered cyber threats, streamline security and network operations, and ensure responsible use of generative AI (GenAI) services across enterprise environments.

According to Michael Xie, Founder, President and Chief Technology Officer at Fortinet, the company’s AI innovation is the result of over a decade of research and more than 500 patents in AI technologies. “By embedding FortiAI across the Fortinet Security Fabric platform, including new agentic AI capabilities, we’re empowering our customers to reduce the workload on their security and network analysts while improving the efficiency, speed, and accuracy of their operations,” Xie said. “We’ve also broadened our Fabric coverage to help customers monitor and control the use of GenAI within their organisations.”

Growing Demand For AI-Powered Cybersecurity

As cyber threats grow more complex—particularly with the rise of AI tools used by attackers—Fortinet’s latest update seeks to address a dual challenge. First, it leverages AI to detect and respond to threats more effectively. Second, it protects internal AI systems from vulnerabilities such as data poisoning, adversarial attacks, and unauthorised access. Fortinet’s AI ecosystem aims to ensure that AI serves as a protective tool, not a security liability.

New Capabilities Rolled Out Across Platform

The expanded FortiAI platform introduces innovations under three key pillars—FortiAI-Assist, FortiAI-Protect, and FortiAI-SecureAI—each tailored to address specific areas of AI-enhanced cybersecurity.

FortiAI-Assist: Automating Security & Network Operations

This tool merges GenAI, agentic AI, and AIOps to enhance operational efficiency. It brings capabilities such as:

Autonomous network management, allowing AI to update security policies, troubleshoot issues, and optimise network performance without human intervention.

Automated alert triage to prioritise high-confidence threats and suppress irrelevant or duplicate alerts.

Adaptive threat hunting and AI-driven root-cause analysis, scanning logs and network traffic to detect threats and trace their origins.

Threat intelligence enrichment to improve identification and attribution of advanced attack tactics.

FortiAI-Protect: Detecting & Controlling GenAI Use

This component strengthens the FortiGuard AI-powered Security Services by introducing:

Visibility into usage of over 6,500 GenAI URLs, along with metadata such as data destinations, models used, and geolocation.

Zero-trust access controls to restrict or block shadow AI and high-risk applications.

Advanced threat detection using machine learning, large-scale data analysis, and ongoing training of IPS models to respond to emerging attack techniques.

FortiAI-SecureAI: Safeguarding AI Models & Infrastructure

Fortinet’s platform also helps organisations defend their AI workloads in cloud environments, secure APIs and web applications, and enforce data protection policies. FortiAI-SecureAI is focused on:

Ensuring data integrity and preventing LLM data leakage

Protecting intellectual property and models

Applying zero-trust access policies

Enabling early detection and response to network-based threats targeting AI systems

Prioritising Data Privacy

Recognising the need for privacy in AI usage, Fortinet confirmed that FortiAI applies a layered data protection model. Data shared with the GenAI assistant is not used to train language models, and all queries are processed locally to prevent data from leaving the enterprise network. Additionally, sensitive data is masked before reaching AI engines.

Road Ahead

As AI-driven threats grow more sophisticated and widespread, Fortinet’s latest expansion underlines its focus on providing holistic, AI-powered defence strategies for modern enterprises. The company believes that organisations must act now to not only use AI as a force multiplier for cybersecurity but also secure their own AI tools and infrastructure.

With FortiAI’s strengthened capabilities, Fortinet positions itself at the forefront of AI-powered cybersecurity innovation, offering a platform that balances automation, threat intelligence, and robust data protection in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
