AI’s Cat & Mouse Game: Transforming Cybersecurity Landscape

Artificial Intelligence in Private Security Industry
In the realm of cybersecurity, the relentless cat-and-mouse game is intensifying as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes the driving force behind both offensive and defensive strategies.

This dynamic dance between attackers exploiting AI and defenders leveraging the same technology unfolds a new chapter in the ongoing battle for digital security. Explore the complex manoeuvres shaping the cybersecurity landscape as AI becomes a powerful ally and adversary in safeguarding the digital frontier.

Cdr. Subhash Dutta (Retd.), Chief of Operations & Head of Malware Research at Sequertek, highlighted the dual nature of AI, serving defenders in identifying vulnerabilities while providing attackers with tools to enhance their activities.

He stated, “From the defence side we are making AI based efforts for us to carry out the tasks in helping the vulnerabilities of others. Attackers are also looking at the same to hone their skills to better perform their activity.”

Varun Soni, Cyberexpert emphasised the evolving landscape, citing that around 60 per cent of attacks leverage the loopholes created by AI advancements. AI-driven threats, including prompt injection, data poisoning and loss of data model, have emerged, demanding the development of countermeasures.

Soni stressed the importance of AI and machine learning models in swiftly recognising, deciding and acting against cyber threats.

He also shared the World Economic Forum (WEF) , cybercrime is projected to become the equivalent of the third-largest economy post-2025, underscoring the urgency to address this growing threat.

Major Vineet Kumar, Founder & Global President, CyberPeace Foundation highlighted the need for a multidirectional approach, extending beyond government initiatives.

He said, “It is not only the government alone that can help in countering these issues, we need a multidirectional approach to counter this abuse.”

Garima Goswamy, CEO & Co- founder, Dridhg Security Inter- national Pvt Ltd emphasised the ethical considerations surrounding AI, cautioning against biases introduced during training. She urged a collective effort in addressing cybersecurity concerns, with a focus on impartial and ethical practices.

The discussion concluded that as AI continually reshapes the cybersecurity landscape, collaboration, ethical considerations and multidirectional approaches are crucial to navigating the complexities of this digital battleground.
