The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has instructed all schools across the capital to adopt comprehensive guidelines aimed at ensuring the safety and security of students. These measures, developed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), outline the accountability of school management in creating a safe environment for children.
In a recent circular, the DoE asked school principals to assess their schools’ safety preparedness based on a checklist provided by the NCPCR in its “Manual on Safety and Security of Children.” This checklist covers various safety protocols that schools must adhere to in order to safeguard students from potential risks.
“All the heads of government, government-aided and private schools are directed to take necessary steps as elaborated in the guidelines,” the circular from the DoE stated. These steps include measures for building security, ensuring adequate emergency exits, and setting up safety equipment.
Further, the DoE directed schools with hostels to follow the guidelines established by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for hostel safety in educational institutions. These standards address aspects such as fire safety, evacuation plans, and regular safety drills.
