Immediate actions recommended include comprehensive fire safety audits, on-site inspections, and addressing issues such as electrical load capacity
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) has announced surprise inspections aimed at ensuring adequate precautions are in place. This decision follows a joint letter from the Department of Health & Family Welfare and the National Disaster Management Authority to all states and union territories highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures.
According to the directive, state health departments and disaster management authorities are urged to collaborate closely to ensure accredited hospitals undergo thorough inspections. These inspections will include assessments of electrical loads, fire safety compliance, and the issuance of Fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
Director of Delhi Fire Services, Atul Garg, emphasised the importance of these inspections, stating that they will focus on verifying fire safety measures and the operational status of critical equipment within hospitals. Garg also highlighted the need for raising awareness about fire safety to prevent any potential incidents.
Immediate actions recommended include comprehensive fire safety audits, on-site inspections, and addressing issues such as electrical load capacity. Hospitals are urged to strictly adhere to regulatory requirements and obtain valid fire NOCs from state fire departments.
The government has issued detailed instructions outlining steps for hospitals to ensure fire safety compliance. These include maintaining functional fire-fighting systems, regular testing, ensuring oxygen safety, and installing smoke detectors and fire alarms. Additionally, hospitals are advised to control combustible materials and adhere strictly to the National Building Code.
Overall, the emphasis is on taking proactive measures to prevent fire incidents in hospitals and healthcare facilities. The government emphasises the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols to safeguard both patients and staff. Follow-up reviews are recommended to ensure the effective implementation of these critical safety measures.
