The International Data Corporation (IDC) highlighted a concerning trend, noting that the increase in sophisticated external cyber threats poses a significant challenge for many enterprises in establishing organisational trust
Global cybersecurity and digital privacy company Kaspersky revealed that 34 per cent of users in India were targeted by local threats in 2023. These threats, which include malicious programs found directly on users’ computers or connected removable media like flash drives and phones, were detected and blocked by Kaspersky’s products, totalling 74.3 million incidents.
According to Kaspersky’s latest report, India ranked 80th worldwide in terms of detected and blocked local incidents, highlighting the widespread nature of these threats. Additionally, the cybersecurity market in India reached a significant milestone of USD 6.06 billion in 2023.
“Kaspersky products detected and blocked 74,385,324 local incidents on the computers of Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) participants in India placing the country in 80th position worldwide,” it said.
However, the International Data Corporation (IDC) highlighted a concerning trend, noting that the increase in sophisticated external cyber threats poses a significant challenge for many enterprises in establishing organisational trust. As a result, nearly 67 per cent of Indian enterprises are considering outsourcing key aspects of their security landscape to managed security service providers over the next three years.
“However, according to the IDC, the alarming increase in sophisticated external cyber threats and cybersecurity attacks is one of the greatest challenges for the majority of enterprises in establishing organisational trust today, to the extent that almost 67 per cent of Indian enterprises are looking to outsource key areas of security landscape to managed security service providers in next three years,” it said.
As India advances in digital connectivity, the cyber threat landscape is expected to evolve continuously. Jaydeep Singh, General Manager for South Asia at Kaspersky, emphasised the importance of adopting a reliable cybersecurity approach, especially with the increasing use of AI and digital payment adoption in India. Singh urged both enterprises and individuals to prioritise cybersecurity to protect assets and maintain stakeholder trust.
Despite a slight dip in local threat numbers, Kaspersky continues to emphasise the importance of remaining vigilant against these threats. Users are advised to stay cautious and keep their guard up against this ongoing menace.
