IndiGo confirmed in a press release that it was aware of safety concerns involving several of its flights on October 20

Over 20 flights operated by Indian airlines, including six from IndiGo, received bomb threats on Sunday, prompting immediate security measures across the aviation sector. Among the impacted flights, six each belonged to IndiGo, Vistara, and Air India. Airlines swiftly issued statements to address the situation and reassure passengers.

IndiGo confirmed in a press release that it was aware of safety concerns involving several of its flights on October 20. The flights impacted included 6E 58 (Jeddah to Mumbai), 6E 87 (Kozhikode to Dammam), 6E 11 (Delhi to Istanbul), 6E 17 (Mumbai to Istanbul), 6E 133 (Pune to Jodhpur), and 6E 112 (Goa to Ahmedabad).

A spokesperson for IndiGo stated, “We are following all safety protocols and keeping relevant authorities informed.” The airline reassured passengers that the security of all its flights was being handled with the highest priority.

Similarly, Vistara reported bomb threats to six of its flights, including UK 25 (Delhi to Frankfurt), UK 106 (Singapore to Mumbai), UK 146 (Bali to Delhi), UK 116 (Singapore to Delhi), UK 110 (Singapore to Pune), and UK 107 (Mumbai to Singapore). According to a Vistara spokesperson, “All relevant authorities were immediately informed, and security protocols were implemented in accordance with the guidelines.”

Air India, which also reportedly had six flights targeted, has yet to issue an official statement. Meanwhile, Akasa Air acknowledged that some of its flights were affected by similar alerts. The airline’s emergency response teams are actively coordinating with security and regulatory agencies to ensure passenger safety.

The bomb threats, categorised as hoaxes after thorough checks, originated from a single social media account on X (formerly Twitter). Police sources revealed that the threats were made against flights from cities like Delhi, Goa, and Darbhanga. In one instance, a bomb threat note was discovered in the lavatory of a flight.

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where several of the threatened flights were scheduled to land, also remained on high alert. The police have detained a minor from Chhattisgarh as part of their investigation into one of the hoax threats.

The Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to introduce stricter regulations to address such incidents in the future. These measures may include placing individuals responsible for hoax threats on the no-fly list, effectively banning them from flying.

This series of threats has triggered heightened security protocols across India’s airports, but authorities have reassured passengers that there is no cause for panic.
