Recognising the crucial role of CCTVs in crime detection and reduction, Singal highlighted their importance in enhancing the police’s approach to law enforcement
With about 650-700 public CCTV cameras reported as dysfunctional across Nagpur, Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal recently chaired a high-level review meeting with relevant agencies. The city’s law enforcement relies heavily on the effectiveness of its CCTV camera network for crime prevention, detection, and traffic management.
Previously, Singal emphasised the need to strengthen the CCTV network and has now insisted on installing 900 additional cameras at strategic locations. He pointed out that many CCTV cameras have malfunctioned due to ongoing civic construction projects, which have disrupted cabling and connectivity. Singal urged the involved agencies to expedite their efforts to repair and restore these cameras promptly.
Recognising the crucial role of CCTVs in crime detection and reduction, Singal highlighted their importance in enhancing the police’s approach to law enforcement.
Further, Commissioner Singal provided an update on the investigation into the February murder of photographer Vinay Poonekar. He disclosed that the prime suspect, fugitive shooter Hemant Shukla, remains at large as police units continue to pursue him across northern India. Shukla, a known criminal with a previous murder case against him, has been evading law enforcement by taking extreme precautions in his communications to avoid detection.
Singal affirmed the police’s commitment to capturing Shukla, expressing confidence that the fugitive’s luck will soon run out. The Commissioner’s proactive measures and dedication to addressing the challenges facing Nagpur’s security infrastructure reflect the police department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the city’s residents.
