Cyber Surakshit Bharat initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) stands as a beacon of proactive defence. Envisioned to heighten awareness about cybercrime and fortify the capabilities of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and frontline IT officials across governmental sectors, its mission is unequivocal: to equip organisation with the tools necessary to combat the escalating menace of cyber-attacks.

The latest event in the initiative unfolded with the 40th CISO Deep-Dive training program, organised under the aegis of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) from December 4th to 8th, 2023. Drawing participants from diverse regions – Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and New Delhi – the program convened at the esteemed Indian Institute of Public Administration in New Delhi.

The inaugural session, graced by distinguished luminaries including Shri S Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, and Shri S N Tripathi, DG-IIPA, alongside senior officials from MeitY, NeGD, and IIPA, served as a platform to underscore the gravity of cybersecurity in the face of mounting cyber threats. Shri S Krishnan, in his address, highlighted the vulnerabilities inherent in our digital era, emphasising the pivotal role CISO officials play in steering organisational cybersecurity strategies, particularly in safeguarding information security.

Acknowledging the indispensable nature of staying abreast of technological advancements, Krishnan urged CISO officers to embrace innovation and adopt a forward-looking approach in bolstering their organisation’s cybersecurity endeavours. His remarks also lauded the Department of Telecommunication for its instrumental role in navigating the challenges posed by burgeoning technologies such as 5G and the anticipated advent of 6G.

At its core, the program is a testament to its multifaceted objectives – from propagating awareness and enhancing capacities to empowering government departments with the requisite measures to foster a cyber-resilient ecosystem. By sensitising and orienting participants toward cyber safety and security, the initiative aligns seamlessly with the Digital India program’s vision of delivering integrated government services to citizens.

Each iteration of the CISO Deep-Dive training program conducted by NeGD since June 2018 has been instrumental, nurturing the capabilities of over 1,523 CISOs and frontline IT officials. These initiatives stand as pillars in fortifying governmental cyber hygiene, amplifying safety measures, and nurturing a robust cyber defence framework essential in safeguarding our digital future.
