A tragic fire incident occurred on Tuesday at the Central Revenue building in the ITO area of the capital, as confirmed by the Income Tax department. In a statement posted on platform ‘X’, formerly Twitter, the department revealed that an Office Superintendent was trapped due to smoke and unfortunately lost his life, despite rescue efforts.
Although the fire is now contained, investigations are underway to determine its cause, stated the IT department. Fortunately, no physical records were damaged, and there was no data loss concerning taxpayers, as all Income Tax Returns are filed online, with related proceedings conducted electronically.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) mobilised, dispatching 21 fire tenders to the site. Seven individuals, including five men and two women, were successfully rescued, with only one person sustaining minor injuries and subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, according to DFS officials.

DFS chief Atul Garg confirmed that all individuals within the building, particularly those on the third floor, were successfully evacuated, with firefighting efforts ongoing to fully extinguish the flames.
Garg emphasized the deployment of gas masks due to toxic fumes and reiterated the safe rescue of all occupants. Local police have been enlisted to probe the fire’s cause, as authorities work to ascertain the precise circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
