Police ensured the safe passage of 274 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway 2 (NH-2)
Security personnel have intensified search operations and area domination efforts in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts over the past few days, resulting in significant recoveries of arms and ammunition.
In a statement released on January 19, officials reported the recovery of a cache of weapons and other items from the Lunkhongjang Ridges area under the jurisdiction of New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi District. The recovered items included:
– One 7.62 mm sniper rifle
– Five 9 mm pistols with magazines
– Two SBBL guns
– Two No. 36 hand grenades
– Six live rounds of ammunition
– Two shells
– One tear smoke shell (chilli)
– One Motorola handset
The operations also focused on securing vital transport routes. Police ensured the safe passage of 274 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway 2 (NH-2). “Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, and security convoys are provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles,” the statement said.
### **Increased Security Measures**
To bolster law and order, authorities have established 106 nakas and checkpoints across the state, covering both hill and valley districts. Officials confirmed that no detentions were made in connection with violations during these operations.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid spreading or believing rumours. “Appeal is made to the general public to not believe in rumours and be aware of false videos and any circulations of them. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately,” the statement added.
These intensified measures come amid efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region while addressing security concerns through coordinated operations and community engagement.
