The former chief minister has been provided security cover based on threats from the radical groups in the state, the officer said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently authorised an escalation in security measures for the former Karnataka Chief Minister and current BJP leader, BS Yediyurappa. This upgraded security detail, classified as Z category and to be managed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been specifically designated for implementation within the confines of Karnataka. This decision, predicated on an Intelligence Bureau threat assessment report, raises caution regarding potential risks emanating from extremist groups, particularly within the boundaries of the state.

In response to these security concerns, the CRPF will delegate its commandos to ensure the safety and protection of Yediyurappa during his travels and engagements across different regions of Karnataka. This decision came swiftly after Yediyurappa, along with several other BJP leaders, announced an upcoming statewide tour aimed at highlighting what they perceive as the “failures” of the Congress government while concurrently consolidating their party’s position in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

BS Yediyurappa, popularly referred to as BSY, holds a formidable and enduring legacy in Karnataka’s political panorama, spanning almost five decades. His notable leadership within the influential Lingayat community, a critical and influential voting constituency in the state, has been a significant hallmark of his political career.
