CERT-In Issues High Severity Security Warning For Millions Of Android Users In India

Vulnerabilities in android versions 12 to 14 could expose sensitive data and allow remote code execution

Millions of Android users in India have been warned of critical security vulnerabilities by the country’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). Issued on September 11, the alert comes with a high severity rating, signalling significant risks for those using Android versions 12, 12L, 13, and 14.

With over 30 million Android phones in India running these versions, CERT-In’s notification is a cause for concern. The agency pointed out multiple flaws across the Android framework, Google Play system updates, and components from ARM, Imagination Technologies, UniSoc, and Qualcomm.

CERT-In emphasised that these vulnerabilities could allow attackers to steal sensitive data or run malicious code on affected devices. Popular manufacturers like Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Samsung, who use these chipsets, are directly impacted, underscoring the need for urgent security patches.

Additionally, CERT-In has also flagged security risks for users of Microsoft Windows, Office, Azure, and Dynamics, urging caution when installing software from untrusted sources to prevent breaches.
