The Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF) has opened registration for its upcoming “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh” event, scheduled for October 17, 2024, at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. This initiative aims to address the growing threat of cybercrime and create a safer digital environment for the people of Uttar Pradesh. The event will gather policymakers, government officials, industry leaders, academics, and cybersecurity experts to develop actionable solutions for the state’s digital safety.

In a world increasingly dependent on the internet, the risks posed by cyber threats have grown significantly. Banking, healthcare, and personal data are just some areas vulnerable to attacks. “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh” seeks to not only address these risks but also bring together various stakeholders to actively work toward a safer digital landscape. As FCRF notes, “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh is more than just an event—it’s a movement dedicated to securing the digital lives of millions across the state.”

The timing of the event is crucial. Scheduled for October 17, the event coincides with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which is globally recognized for raising awareness about cyber risks and protective measures. It also marks the anniversary of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which laid the foundation for India’s cybersecurity framework. This alignment underscores Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to improving its digital infrastructure.

Attendees can expect a range of discussions covering key topics related to cybersecurity. Protecting critical infrastructure, such as power, water, and transportation systems, will be a primary focus. Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and other experts will discuss strategies to safeguard these essential services. Online safety for women and children, another critical issue, will be addressed, with an emphasis on preventing online harassment and threats.

The event will also tackle securing public digital infrastructure as more government services move online, making them potential targets for cyberattacks. Experts will explore ways to engage the public in promoting safe online practices, emphasizing that cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility, not just that of specialists.

Law enforcement’s role in combating cybercrime will be a central topic, given the increasing complexity of digital threats. The event aims to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in tackling cybercrime. Additionally, as transportation systems become more connected, discussions will focus on securing smart vehicles and transport networks from potential cyberattacks.

Another session will explore the psychological impact of excessive internet use and the importance of promoting ethical behavior online, recognizing the broader societal implications of cybersecurity.

The “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh” event is open to a wide audience, including government IT officials, CISOs, police officers, bank officials, intelligence officers, and professionals in the power, aviation, and transport sectors. It also welcomes educators, students, and parents, with the aim of equipping future generations with the knowledge to navigate the digital world safely.

FCRF is also seeking partnerships for this initiative, encouraging companies and individuals to get involved by sponsoring or contributing insights. Interested parties can contact the foundation at research@futurecrime.org to explore opportunities for collaboration.
