Wellness is an investment because when you start looking over your employees, the productivity goes up, says expert
Effective facility management is crucial for creating wellness and productive workspaces. A well-managed facility can boost employee morale, enhance productivity, and support overall organisational success. This involves maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment, as well as ensuring that facilities are equipped with necessary amenities and technologies.
“Wellness of me is the kind of ambience that is provided for the workforce. We are changing in ergonomic furnitures, indoor plants, these changes have come particularly after the pandemic. Even the small changes have improved the employees wellness,” said Preeti Aggarwal, AVP-FM Operations (North), Knight Frank India.
Facility managers can promote wellness by incorporating elements like natural light, green spaces, and air quality monitoring. They can also optimize workspace design to foster collaboration, creativity, and focus.
While moderating a session in the second edition of BW Facility Management 40 Under 40 Awards 2025, Sapna Srivastava, Editor, Realty+, emphasised the importance of retaining the employee through evolution of facility management for employee wellness. She also urged panelists to highlight the impact of pandemic in wellness space.
“After the pandemic the biggest challenge was to call employees back to office. We had an era where it was believed that people can work from home, however the myth got busted since it was not practically possible. In order to have collaborative workforce and team building, people have to rejoin the office. Initially, our push and pull technically worked but it was not work sustainable. So we focused on the office environment, it’s space, furniture, temperatures and converted it into a positive workspace from traditional offices which subsequently increased productivity, Rahul Dadheech, VP, Head of FM (Metro BU and Rest of India), DLF.
By prioritising facility management, organizations can create an environment that supports employee well-being, drives performance, and attracts top talent.
“Maintaining your quality standards and probably going beyond that becomes the unique selling proposition (USP) and clients are ready to pay the premium. We provide our facility to clients with pride and then the cost becomes the second priority over employee wellness,” said Arun Sharma, AVP & Head Administration, Infogain India.
By investing in facility management, organisations can reap long-term benefits, including improved employee satisfaction, reduced turnover, and increased productivity.
‘Wellness is an investment because when you start looking over your employees, the productivity goes up. There are reports which show that absenteeism has come down by 15 to 20 per cent just because the organisation started to look after its employees. It’s the people engagement which is important and you have to cater to each segment be it hybrid mode or work from home. Wellness is more of a culture, and when we talk about flexible spaces and how employees work is all data driven now,” said Capt AA Collaco, Director-Projects, CAPSI.
Ultimately, effective facility management requires a holistic approach that balances physical, emotional, and environmental factors.
