Gautam Budh Nagar Steps Up Industrial Fire Safety With High-Level Committee

The team has already begun inspecting industrial units across the district

In response to a series of recent fire incidents in Noida and Greater Noida, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration has launched a decisive initiative to strengthen fire safety in industrial areas. A high-level committee has been formed to inspect factories, enforce compliance with fire safety regulations, and initiate legal action against violators.

The renewed focus on fire safety comes amid growing concern following multiple industrial and commercial fire outbreaks. Just last week, a blaze in an eight-storey building in Noida’s Sector 18 led to a dramatic rescue, where four people, including two women, jumped from the third and fourth floors to escape the flames. The fire, reportedly caused by an air conditioner compressor blast, endangered over 150 people present inside the building.

To avoid such incidents in the future, the district administration is taking a stricter stance. “The committee has been tasked with identifying safety deficiencies in factories, issuing directives for compliance, and initiating legal proceedings under the Disaster Management Act, the Fire Safety Act, and the Factory Act,” said Pradeep Kumar Chaubey, Chief Fire Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar.

“This proactive approach aims to prevent industrial disasters and safeguard workers and residents in the district’s industrial zones,” he added.

The newly constituted committee is chaired by City Magistrate Vivekanand Mishra and includes Deputy Director (Factories) BK Singh and Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey as co-chairpersons. Other key members are District Disaster Expert Omkar Chaturvedi and Assistant Director (Factories) SK Singh.

The team has already begun inspecting industrial units across the district. In a recent inspection at a factory in Surajpur, Greater Noida, officials identified multiple safety violations. “Following the inspection, notices were issued to the factory management, directing them to rectify the deficiencies immediately. They have been warned that failure to comply with safety norms will result in strict legal action,” said Chaubey.

Emphasising the importance of preparedness, authorities are urging factory owners to install fire-fighting equipment, conduct regular safety drills, and ensure that all workers are trained to handle emergencies. City Magistrate Vivekanand Mishra underlined that non-compliance will not be tolerated. “We are ensuring that all factories adhere to fire safety regulations to prevent any unfortunate incidents. The committee will regularly monitor compliance, and strict action will be taken against those failing to implement necessary measures,” he said.

The initiative is not limited to industrial spaces alone. Officials are also reviewing safety standards in commercial buildings, given the recent spate of AC compressor-related fires. In March, a fire broke out at a women’s paying guest accommodation in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park 2, again triggered by a compressor explosion. That same month, a garment factory in Sector 63, Noida, was engulfed in flames.

With industrial activity growing and fire hazards increasing, the administration is prioritising not only enforcement but also awareness. Factory managements are being encouraged to proactively assess and upgrade safety measures rather than wait for inspections or mishaps.

More inspections are planned in the coming weeks as the district pushes for safer and more compliant industrial zones. The committee’s efforts reflect a broader move towards preventive safety and risk mitigation, aiming to protect lives and property in one of Uttar Pradesh’s most rapidly developing industrial belts.
