GITAM School of Technology is set to host ‘Cyber Security Week 2024′ at Vemana Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, from October 21 to 24, 2024. The event aims to boost students’ understanding and expertise in cybersecurity through a series of workshops, talks, and competitions designed to offer real-world insights into the field.

The week-long event kicks off on October 21 with an inauguration ceremony, followed by a keynote address from Vishal Kalla of Hitachi India, Hyderabad, titled *”Cybersecurity in Action: Industry Insights and Solutions for the Digital Age.”* Concurrently, Gururaj Deshpande will deliver a talk titled *”From Minor Bugs to Major Breaches: Cyber Attack Stories,”* shedding light on real-world cyber attack scenarios and the challenges faced in safeguarding digital systems.

The opening day will also feature a forensics workshop on *’Big Cyber Informatics,’* conducted by Dilip S, Assistant Professor at Vemana Institute of Technology. The workshop will run from 2 pm to 4 pm and is designed to offer practical knowledge in cyber forensics, helping students understand the methods used to investigate cybercrimes.

On October 22, students will have the chance to showcase their innovative ideas at the **Securathon Ideathon**, an online competition running from 10 am to 5 pm. Participants will present ideas on various cybersecurity topics, with cash prizes awarded to the top submissions. The first prize is Rs 2,000, followed by Rs 1,500 for second place, Rs 1,000 for third, and a consolation prize of Rs 500. Participation requires registration.

The highlight of the event will be the **Securehack**, a 24-hour hackathon starting on October 23 at 10 am and concluding at 12 pm the following day. Participants will compete for cash prizes, including Rs 10,000 for first place, Rs 7,500 for second, Rs 5,000 for third, and a consolation prize of Rs 2,500. The hackathon will challenge students to solve real-world cybersecurity problems in a high-pressure environment.

Dr. Niranjan Appaswamy, Associate Professor at GITAM School of Technology, emphasized the importance of events like this for nurturing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. *”Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of cybersecurity and to inspire the next generation of cybersecurity experts,”* he said.
