CSGC 2.0 is designed to provide mentorship, capability-building opportunities, and market access to innovators, startups, and budding entrepreneurs

The government on Wednesday announced the launch of the ‘Cyber Security Grand Challenge 2.0’ (CSGC 2.0), an ambitious initiative aimed at fostering innovation in cybersecurity solutions. The programme, backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), boasts a total prize pool of Rs 6.85 crore, more than doubling the Rs 3.2 crore offered in the first edition.

CSGC 2.0 is designed to provide mentorship, capability-building opportunities, and market access to innovators, startups, and budding entrepreneurs. This aligns with the broader objectives of initiatives like Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat. A standout feature of this edition is that the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for products developed under the challenge will remain with the respective startups, empowering innovators with full ownership of their creations.

Multi-Stage Structure & Focus Areas

MeitY has outlined a multi-stage structure for CSGC 2.0, with mentorship provided at every phase. The stages include the Idea Stage, Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Stage, Final Product Stage, and a newly introduced ‘Go-to-Market’ Stage. The initiative seeks to identify and nurture solutions in six key problem statement areas: API Security, Data Protection, Wearable Privacy, Clone App Mitigation, AI Threat Detection, and Biometric Security.

“The Cyber Security Grand Challenge 2.0 is a major government-backed initiative with a significant amount of prize money of Rs 6.85 crore and a focus on recognising startups offering innovative cybersecurity solutions,” said S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY.

Encouraging Participation

Registrations for the challenge are open until February 14. The programme is structured to recognise and reward participants across various stages. At the Idea Stage, six startups will be selected for each problem statement, resulting in a total of 36 startups, each receiving Rs 5 lakh. At the MVP Stage, 18 startups will be shortlisted, with each receiving Rs 10 lakh.

Finalists for each problem statement will compete for Rs 25 lakh at the Final Product Stage. The ultimate winners in the ‘Go-to-Market’ Stage will be crowned Platinum, Gold, and Silver Winners, receiving Rs 1 crore, Rs 50 lakh, and Rs 25 lakh, respectively.

“I hope the participants and winners will lead change and bring out home-grown innovative security solutions to empower India’s digital journey,” added Krishnan.

Driving Innovation In Cybersecurity

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s digital ecosystem by encouraging localised, innovative solutions to pressing cybersecurity challenges. The additional ‘Go-to-Market’ Stage highlights an emphasis on scalability and real-world application of solutions, ensuring a practical impact beyond the competition.

By prioritising innovation and collaboration, CSGC 2.0 aims to make India a global leader in cybersecurity, creating solutions that safeguard digital infrastructure and secure the digital future.
