High-Severity Alert Issued For Google Chrome Users: CERT-In Urges Immediate Update To Prevent Security Risks

The warning states that hackers could gain unauthorised access to sensitive information, including passwords, banking details, and other personal data

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-severity warning for Google Chrome users, citing multiple vulnerabilities in the browser that could expose users to cyber threats. According to a report by *Moneycontrol*, these vulnerabilities may allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on systems with outdated versions of Chrome.

The warning states that hackers could gain unauthorised access to sensitive information, including passwords, banking details, and other personal data. Such access could potentially lead to financial fraud and additional security risks.

The vulnerabilities have been linked to improper implementations in Chrome’s Extensions and Type Confusion within the V8 JavaScript engine. These flaws could allow attackers to bypass Chrome’s built-in security measures, leaving user data exposed.

Affected Versions

The affected versions include all Chrome releases before 130.0.6723.69/.70 for Windows and Mac and before 130.0.6723.69 for Linux. CERT-In strongly advises all users to update their Chrome browser immediately to protect against these security issues.

How To Update Google Chrome

To install the latest version of Chrome, users should follow these steps:

1. Open Google Chrome and click on the three dots at the top right corner.
2. Select “Help” and then click on “About Chrome.”
3. Chrome will automatically check for updates and install the latest version.
4. Once the update is complete, restart the browser when prompted.

The latest Chrome 130 update has been specifically designed to address these vulnerabilities, ensuring greater security for users. CERT-In’s alert underscores the importance of keeping browsers updated to protect against evolving cyber threats.
