Intensive training enhances drone operation skills to strengthen digital surveillance and operational efficiency
In a move to modernise policing methods, the Himachal Pradesh Police have successfully completed a 10-day intensive drone operations training programme, aimed at boosting digital surveillance and operational effectiveness. Conducted under the leadership of Director General of Police Atul Verma, IPS, the initiative underscores the department’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into its law enforcement strategies.
Despite challenges such as heavy rain and fog that temporarily relocated the training to Kolar District in Sirmour, the programme culminated successfully at Police Lines Bharari in Shimla. The final demonstration showcased the newly acquired skills of officers trained in various drone applications.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Tourist, and Railway, Gurdev Chand Sharma, IPS, who presided over the closing ceremony, highlighted the crucial role of drones in modern policing. “The integration of drones into our operations marks a significant step towards smarter policing, enabling rapid and effective responses across a variety of scenarios,” DIG Sharma remarked.
Additional SP, Traffic, Tourist, and Railway, Narvir Singh Rathour, who coordinated the course, lauded the participants’ dedication and acknowledged ASI Sandeep Chauhan of the 6th IRBn Nahan, District Sirmour, for his exceptional role as the course trainer. The training emphasised the importance of skilled personnel in maximising the capabilities of drone technology.
As drones become increasingly important in contemporary law enforcement, their applications extend to real-time surveillance, crowd management, and crime investigation. With the Indian drone industry on the rise, the use of this technology in civil policing is poised to expand, offering innovative solutions for more efficient and safer law enforcement operations.
