India Ranks 80th Among Most Targeted Countries In Cybercrime

Enterprises in India are facing this challenge, recognising that establishing organisational trust is paramount in today’s digital landscape
In the year 2023, India found itself in the spotlight concerning cybersecurity threats, ranking 80th globally in a report focusing on local threats. The report highlights concerning fact that nearly 34 per cent of users in India had been targeted by these local threats. These threats offer malicious programs that directly impacts users’ computers or any removable media connected to them, such as flash drives, memory cards, phones, or external hard drives.

Kaspersky products played a pivotal role in safeguarding users, blocking a significant number of local incidents, estimated at around 74,385,324. Despite efforts to combat these threats, India’s cybersecurity market reached a staggering USD 6.06 billion in 2023. However, according to IDC (International Data Corporation), this impressive figure also highlighted a concerning trend – the alarming increase in sophisticated external cyber threats and cybersecurity attacks.

Enterprises in India are facing this challenge, recognising that establishing organisational trust is paramount in today’s digital landscape. Consequently, approximately 67 per cent of Indian enterprises are contemplating outsourcing key areas of their security landscape to managed security service providers within the next three years.

Jaydeep Singh, General Manager for South Asia at Kaspersky, emphasised the critical need for continuous improvement in cybersecurity posture, especially in light of the widespread use of AI and the increasing adoption of digital payment systems in India. He expressed on the importance of organisations to protect their assets and maintain stakeholder trust amidst evolving cyber threats.

In essence, the cybersecurity landscape in India is witnessing a pivotal moment. With the rise of sophisticated threats and the increasing reliance on digital technologies, organisations are recognising the urgency to heighten their cybersecurity defences and adapt to this rapidly evolving threat landscape.
