Indian Government Issues Security Warning For Android Users

CERT-In’s security bulletin points out multiple vulnerabilities across various components, including the framework, system

This week, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a new security warning affecting millions of Android users. The warning highlights potential exploits that could allow attackers to access sensitive information and execute arbitrary code on affected phones.

CERT-In’s security bulletin points out multiple vulnerabilities across various components, including the framework, system, Google Play system updates, ARM components, MediaTek components, Imagination components, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed-source components.

These vulnerabilities impact Android versions 12, 12L, 13, and 14. With millions of phones in India running these versions, this high-severity alert is significant and should be taken seriously.

The involvement of multiple chipmakers means that brands like Samsung, Realme, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Vivo must address these issues promptly and release necessary security patches.

Fortunately, most phone brands have been notified about these vulnerabilities. The latest security patches have already been released and are expected to be available on all affected devices within the next few weeks. To check for updates, go to Settings > System update > Software, and see if a new version is available for your device.

In the meantime, it’s advisable to avoid accessing suspicious websites or opening links and attachments from unknown senders to protect your phone from potential exploits.
