Key discussions revolved around the installation of CCTV cameras to enhance monastery security

The Leh Hill Development Council (LAHDC), under the chairmanship of Tashi Gyalson, held a review meeting to assess ongoing efforts to strengthen the security of monasteries (Gompas) in the region. The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Tsewang Gyalson, Culture Deputy Secretary Tsewang Paljor, Leh Gompa Association (LGA) President Gyen Tsering Angdu, and General Secretary Tsering Chosphel.

Key discussions revolved around the installation of CCTV cameras to enhance monastery security. Authorities confirmed that the tender for CCTV installation has been approved, and the concerned department has been briefed on the tendering process.

The council also deliberated on drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to outline security measures and development plans for the monasteries. This MoU, to be finalised and signed in the coming days, will establish a framework for collaboration between the Culture Academy, LGA, and the Hill Council.

Commitment To Cultural Preservation

Chairman Tashi Gyalson reaffirmed the council’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s monastic heritage.

“The Council fully supports the holistic development and security of monasteries. We will provide all necessary assistance to preserve our cultural heritage,” he assured the Gompa Association.

With the security initiatives underway, the council aims to protect sacred sites, prevent security threats, and ensure the continued preservation of Ladakh’s rich cultural legacy.
