SIA Unveils 2024 Recipients Of Women In Biometrics Awards

These awardees will be honored at SIA GovSummit, the annual government security conference hosted by SIA. The recognition signifies the valuable contributions of women in advancing biometric technology and security practices on a global scale

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has recently announced the recipients of the 2024 SIA Women in Biometrics Awards, recognising four outstanding leaders in the field. Presented by SIA with support from IDEMIA and other partners, these awards highlight the contributions of women in shaping the landscape of biometric technology.

Among the awardees is Leire Arbona Puértolas, the Legal and Compliance Director at Veridas. Since joining the company in 2017, Arbona Puértolas has been a key figure in navigating international regulations related to biometric identity verification and data protection. Her expertise has been instrumental in ensuring Veridas’ compliance with regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe and the California Consumer Privacy Act in the United States. Beyond corporate compliance, Arbona Puértolas actively engages in advising on legislative developments in various countries, influencing the future of digital identity verification.

Another recipient of the award is Melissa Conley, serving as the Executive Director of Capability Management and Innovation at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). In her role, Conley oversees TSA’s operational capabilities throughout their life cycles, ensuring alignment with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and TSA strategies. She leads efforts to integrate innovative security solutions into the agency’s architecture, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance operational capabilities and efficiencies. Conley’s extensive experience includes leadership roles within TSA, where she has spearheaded initiatives to improve security and optimize mission performance.
